Rhinoplasty and Deviated Septum
Most septal displacements are asymptomatic, so you may not even be aware that there is something wrong with your septum. Nonetheless, the following symptoms could be brought on by some septal abnormalities:
- Blockage of one or both nostrils. It may be difficult to breathe through the nose or nostrils because of this occlusion. This could happen more frequently if you have allergies or a cold, which can cause your nasal passages to widen and narrow.
- Bleeding noses. The surface of your nasal septum may become dry, increasing the risk of nosebleeds.
- An uncomfortable face. There is debate about the possible causes of facial discomfort in the nose. One side of the face may hurt if there is a large deviation in the septum, where surfaces rub against each other inside the nose.
- Loudly breathing while snoring. A deviated septum or an expansion of the tissues in your nose are two possible causes of noisy breathing during sleep.
- Being aware of the nasal cycle. There is intermittent nasal blockage, occurring on one side and then moving to the other. This is known as the nasal cycle. Nasal obstruction may be indicated by the remarkable awareness of the nasal cycle.
- A preference for lying on one side. Some people may find that sleeping on one side improves nasal breathing at night if one nasal tube is constricted.
Rhinoplasty Complications - Nose Job Risks
Fortunately, the risks of rhinoplasty are low and complications are uncommon. Before the procedure, your doctor will thoroughly discuss the risks and advantages of the surgery with you.
The most frequent rhinoplasty side effects that are considered "medical" are severe bleeding or infection. In less than 1 in 500 cases, bleeding necessitates immediate attention and care in my practice. Infections following surgery occur around 1% of the time.
Like any major surgery, rhinoplasty carries certain risks. These include:
- Bleeding
- Infection
- Adverse anesthetic response
- Difficulty breathing through your nose
- Persistent numbness in the nose and surrounding area
- Pain, redness, or swelling that may continue
- Scarring
- A hole (septal perforation) in the septum
- The need for more surgery
